Company Description:
The company was formed by Catherine Lyons and John J Doherty with a view to making high quality documentaries, particularly in the area of arts and culture, and drama of a challenging nature.
Camel recently completed the production of Frederick Douglass and the White Negro, (developed with the assistance of the MEDIA Programme) a documentary on the abolitionist Frederick Douglass and his relationship with Ireland (BCI/TG4/Irish Film Board).
Camel Productions won first prize at the CELTIC FILM & TELEVISION FESTIVAL 2004 (Best Arts Documentary) and Best Documentary at the FANTASY WORLDWIDE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL TORONTO 2005 with their documentary Harry Clarke - Darkness in Light (TG4/Irish Film Board).
In 2006 Catherine Lyons produced Buail a dance film collaboration between the Irish Modern Dance Theatre and Camel Production (dir: Steve Woods) for the Arts Council & RTE’s Dance on the Box season as well as working on a freelance contract for RTE's Young People's Dept.
Catherine, a graduate of DLIADT, completed the EURODOC training programme in 2002. Other projects in development are Looking for Sheela (with TG4) and the international feature length documentary Bakunin – The Desire for Freedom (with the Irish Film Board).
Catherine Lyons is also working with the writer/director Michčle Manahan on Play, a feature film project devised by drawing on the techniques of the Berlin studio of Michael Chekov.
Future projects will involve further innovation in drama as well as documentary. Camel Productions is determined to entertain, inform and surprise with every production. Interesting potential co-productions will always be given serious consideration.
