Red Shoe Productions
Red Shoe Productions is an independent television production company based in An Rinn, Waterford. We are a female-owned and operated company, established in 2007 and headed up by multi-award winning Director/Producer Maggie Breathnach.
Maggie Breathnach is an IFTA and RTS award-winning Director/Producer with over two decades industry experience. Her award-winning productions and nominations include “Voices of Ireland” for Sky Arts, and “Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin: Between Worlds” for RTÉ. Her recent directing and producing credits include “Imelda May: Amhráin na nGael” – a six-part series where Imelda challenges her relationship with the Irish language through sean-nós singing, for RTÉ, and “Tarrac na Farraige” – a four-part series about the fishing industry in Ireland, also for RTÉ; “Lily & Lolly: The Forgotten Yeats Sisters” for Sky Arts; “House of Art” for Oireachtas TV; and “Imeall” for TG4. As well as promoting the use of the Irish language in the sector, Maggie is keen to contribute to the preservation and archive of the Irish arts.
As well as artist partnerships, Red Shoe has developed significant relationships across Ireland with key stakeholders, from governmental bodies to community groups to NGOs. Off-screen activity is priority, coming up with inventive, inclusive, and inspirational ways to encourage participation within communities, towns, and festivals. We also have extensive experience in nationwide and cross-border initiatives. With Belfast City Council, and The Duncairn - as part of “Gradam Ceoil” (TG4) – we helped to create an inaugural bursary scheme supporting creativity and cultural expression for young people to help promote traditional music in the North. We also collaborated with NI Screen and the ILBF (Irish Language Broadcast Fund) to develop skilled crew with the capacity to work in Irish, and this remains a core aspect of our business strategy and organisational culture.
