Further details from the press release below:

'RTÉ Arts currently seek peak-time formats that tap into the growing swell of amateur arts activity across Ireland. They are keen to broaden the range and impact of our arts slate, and keen to celebrate and encourage the creativity of ordinary Irish citizens.

For Autumn 2016, RTÉ are specifically looking for proposals for a competition-based series that showcases the talents of amateur artists or makers across Ireland, similar to the BBC’sThe Big Painting Challengeor Sky’sPortrait Artist of the Year- but with a distinctly Irish twist.

The series should be by preference be 6 x 26’ and play pre-watershed to a general audience (e.g. Sunday evening family viewing). However, if the idea lends itself to a 3 x 52' for a Tuesday/Thursday 10.15 slot, we will also consider it. The series should be ready to go on air by October 2016.Total RTÉ funding available for this project isto a maximum of€300,000depending on the totalbudget and funding plan for the successful project. RTÉ welcome formats that are supported by additional funding and/or partnerships with arts/community organisations and also welcome highly visual formats that enable viewers to discover the people and the beauty of Ireland and/or hidden Ireland.

Initial applications to be submitted under "Arts" on www.rte.ie/commissioning by 12 noon on Wednesday 27th April. In the initial e-commissioning application, production companies should outline the series concept and how/why it will work in a peak-time family-viewing slot. Proposals should take into account how RTÉ can support the campaign/series across all its platforms.Production companies should also identify and suggest key on-screen talent: a presenter with broad popular appeal but interest in/experience of the artform, and suggest associated on-screen talent/expertise e.g. mentors, judges, demonstrators.

Companies will be shortlisted based on the strength and clarity of their proposal and their ability to deliver the series/campaign to the highest possible standard within the timeframe.Production companies should be able to demonstrate a solid track record in delivering successful peak-time formats for an Irish audience, experience of delivering qualityarts programmes, and evidence of building successful partnerships (funding, partnerships with national organisations) that enable the strongest possible content and impact.

Shortlisted companies should have ideas for related social media campaigns that increase participation and amplify the impact of the series; and how an accompanying website might work. (For previous examples of RTÉ digital arts content to accompany an arts campaign/series, see the websites forMasterpiece: Ireland’s Favourite Painting, Instrumental&A Poem for Ireland). We want to involve the maximum audience possible in the project – so enabling people to take part (by voting, or entering a project) and/or take up a creative activity is key.

This series is intended to encourage ordinary people to take part in a creative activity. While we have an immediate preference for formats around the visual arts, we will still consider strong, televisual ideas that enable participation in other art forms.

In the first instance, producers should submit ideas into the eCommissioning system under the programme category : RTÉ Arts : New Series for Autumn 2016
