Element Pictures leads the way for Irish Talent with 10 Oscar Nominations – Screen Producers Ireland

Speaking after the announcement of the Oscar Nominations this afternoon, Screen Producers Ireland CEO Elaine Geraghty said:

“All of us in SPI are thrilled for our member company, Element Pictures, whose film ‘The Favourite’ received 10 Oscar nominations today. These nominations included ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Cinematography’ for Irish cinematographer Robbie Ryan.

Element Pictures’ ambition is always at the forefront of the content that they produce, and Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe’s partnership with Director, Yorgos Lanthimos, has yet again yielded further Oscar nomination success. Yorgos has been previously nominated for Best Original Screenplay for the Element produced film ‘The Lobster’ in 2016.”

The Irish Creative Screen industry is in rude health, with ‘Late Afternoon’ also nominated for Best Animated Short and ‘Detainment’ for Best Short.

“Irish producers, working alongside our incredibly talented Actors, Directors, Writers and Crew are creating some of the world’s best content across Film, TV, Documentary and Animation. At a time when our creative industry is receiving global accolades, it needs to be supported and strategic polices put in place that will allow us to grow, compete and retain our reputation as a world class industry.

SPI wishes everyone at Element Pictures, and the other Irish nominees, the very best of luck on February 24th when the Oscars take place.
