Commissioning and Funding Bodies

Screen Ireland

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland (SI) is the national development agency for the Irish film, television and animation industry, investing in talent, creativity and enterprise. The agency supports Irish companies across these sectors by providing investment loans for the development, production and distribution of film, television and animation projects.

Coimisiún na Meán

The Coimisiún na Meán is the regulator of broadcasting in Ireland. The Coimisiún na Meán operates Sound & Vision 4 funding scheme for television and radio programmes, funded through the television licence fee. For more information on open rounds and how to apply click here.

RTÉ

Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) is Ireland's National Public Service Multi-Media Organisation. RTÉ has an obligation to spend on independently produced television and radio programmes. The statutory amount is €40m. RTÉ has an Independent Production division which manages commissioning of television programming from independent producers.

TG4

TG4 is primarily a publisher-broadcaster; news and some studio-based programming is produced in-house and most of the schedule is commissioned programming from independent producers in addition to the acquired content from international sources. For commissioning news click here.

The Arts Council

As the Irish Government’s development agency for the arts, the Arts Council is the major funder of the arts in Ireland. Film is one of the eleven art forms which the Arts Council supports.

Creative Europe Media

The Ireland desk of the MEDIA sub-programme of Creative Europe supports European film and audiovisual industries in the development, distribution and promotion of their work. The programme supports projects with a European dimension while also enabling them to seek markets beyond national and European borders. Funding is also available for training, development, and new technologies.

Virgin Media Television

Virgin Media Television is Ireland’s first privately owned free-to-air television network of three channels: Virgin Media One, Virgin Media Two, Virgin Media Three, as well as the Virgin Media Player. Virgin Media Television is an investor in home produced content, including news, current affairs and drama.

The Western Region Audiovisual Producers Fund (WRAP) is a Regional Fund committed to strategic investment on commercial terms that generates economic impact, supports local talent, creates sustainable employment, builds the audio-visual infrastructure and contributes to the culture and language of the West of Ireland. Eurimages

Eurimages is the cultural support fund of the Council of Europe. Eurimages promotes independent filmmaking by providing financial support to feature-length films, animation and documentary films. In doing so, it encourages co-operation between professionals established in different countries.

BBC Northern Ireland

BBC NI is the main public service broadcaster in Northern Ireland. A significant percentage of BBC output on local television, and to a lesser extent on BBC radio, is sourced from the independent sector – providing additional employment and helping to sustain the creative industries in Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland Screen is the national screen agency for Northern Ireland. The agency’s purpose is to promote the development of a sustainable film, animation and television production industry.

Stiúdeó Fíbín / Fíbín TV Studio

A state of the art production studio is located in Tully, Connemara. The studio has hosted many productions to date and is available to rent throughout the year. The 130 sq. meters studio floor space also includes production offices, make-up room, green room, kitchen facilities andvision mixing (director’s room). For further information please click here.

Font Hill Studios

Font Hill Studios is a 50,000 sq ft facility in Dublin. 20 minutes from the airport and 25 minutes from Dublin City Center, Font Hill Studios is a multi purpose facility catering for Film,

Television and Commercials. In addition to the 30,000 sq ft soundstage, the facility offers workshops, dressing rooms and production offices.

Reverist Studios

Reverist Studios is Ireland’s first purpose-built motion and performance capture studio. This permanent 12m x 12m performance space brings the most advanced motion capture technology to Ireland for the first time.

Faceware’s Mark IV head mounted camera system, and the Vicon motion capture system will allow for full performance capture of up to eight actors.

Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media

This Department has a broad remit including overseeing the fine art and cultural heritage of the country, responsibility for the development and regulation of broadcasting and certain media and overseeing policy for the funding of public service broadcasters and the broadcasting sector in general. The department supports the development and expansion of the film and television production sector.
